The Virginia Bioinformatics Institute (VBI) at Virginia Tech performs world-class informatics research in life sciences, social sciences, and human health by integrating theory, modeling and simulation with computational and experimental science in a transdisciplinary, team science research environment. The Institute's mission is to solve some of society's most important problems affecting life sciences, social sciences and human health through transdisciplinary informatics research and education.
Reporting to the Senior Research Administrator assigned to NDSSL, and ultimately to the Director, Sponsored Programs-VBI, the Research Administrator will serve as a member of the Grants Team at VBI. Primary responsibilities include administering and coordinating various pre-award activities while executing various other activities in support of VBI's sponsored program operations for the Network Dynamics and Simulation Science Laboratory (NDSSL). Will be expected to exercise sound decision-making and problem solving skills in the preparation of research proposals and serve as a liaison with internal and external stakeholders and funding agencies while staying abreast of funding solicitations. Will serve as a resource for administration and ongoing monitoring of awards, and for participating in the development of administrative procedures to ensure compliance with university and sponsor policies and procedures. Coordinates with members of NDSSL's administrative support and grants groups on various sponsored research related activities, such as travel, purchasing, publications, meetings, etc.
In accordance with the university's hiring practices for non-student positions, this position will require a conviction check.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
