Reporting to the Senior Director of Networked Knowledge Collaboration Services (NKCS) in our Technology-enhanced Learning and Online Strategies (TLOS) group, the person filling this position will act as the development manager for all technology services provided for by the NKCS team, notably Scholar (our current Learning Management System), our Student Perceptions of Teaching (SPOT) survey system, our Network Learning Initiatives (NLI) application, WordPress, and a variety of other software systems and integrations supported by TLOS. The person filling this position will serve as a senior software engineer, which includes mentoring of other developers and, at times, coding. Will be responsible for all phases of application development, including integration with other applications and with existing enterprise systems. Works directly with supervisor, members of a development team, and other teams within TLOS (server operations, QA, support) to meet project goals with an emphasis on usability and end user satisfaction. Works directly with end users (faculty, staff, students) to determine needs for application development and documents these needs. Works to design prototypes of proposed software solutions and helps make decisions about which technologies should be used for given applications. Works on departmental strategy and represents interests of the development team in such strategy discussions. The person filling this role should both be comfortable managing development processes for high volume, mission critical production systems, as well as having the skills to work on innovative, smaller new technology efforts, as the job will be a mix of both.
Core
Responsibilities:
oManages a small to mid-size development team (3-6 direct reports) and leads the development efforts for the department including setting standards, meeting deadlines, and coaching other developers.
oDetermines system requirements for new and existing systems by working with end users and project stakeholders.
oWorks collaboratively with other teams within TLOS (support, quality assurance,usability) to meet project goals and organizational objectives.
oAssists with prototyping potential user interfaces.
oParticipates in development of global open source projects (such as Sakai) and develops high quality, documented code that can be contributed back to the project.
oWorks and communicates with Virginia Tech IT developers in an effort to share information and establish common knowledge across departments.
oWorks with our Server and Network Operations group to coordinate migration of development projects into pilot and ultimately production stages.
oProvides maintenance code changes for developed production applications.
oProvides customizations to integrate, enhance, and maintain vendor software and enterprise systems based on end user needs.
oUses best practices as defined by standards organizations in all TLOS application development to insure compatibility.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
