The Ted and Karyn Hume Center for National Security and Technology at Virginia Tech seek applicants for an Information Technology (IT) manager to support its Linux-based server infrastructure and web-based applications, along with basic desktop support to Center personnel. This position is the first full-time IT professional for the Hume Center and will be responsible for developing and implementing the overall enterprise architecture for the systems and network. US citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance are required for this position due to the nature of the center and accountability.
Overall duties of the position include: (1) administration of a Linux-based server infrastructure, to include mail services (postfix, cyrus IMAP, roundcube), web services (apache, gitlab), file sharing (owncloud), and authentication/directory service (PKI, openldap, NIS); (2) administration of a Cisco-based VPN overlay network interconnecting multiple sites, to include ASA firewalls and IPsec VPN infrastructure; (3) support and extension of the Center's internally-developed web-based enterprise program/personnel management tools; (4) supporting a broad range of research computing needs, ranging from provisioning virtual machines to support specific programs to installation and oversight of a compute cluster; (5) user account administration on the Linux production infrastructure; (6) coordination with the Office of Export-Controlled and Secure Research Compliance (OESRC) to ensure IT infrastructure meets the necessary security requirements for protection of proprietary and/or sensitive data; (7) coordination with Communications Network Services (CNS) for university IT infrastructure inter-connectivity; (8) User IT support and troubleshooting for their use of the Linux-based infrastructure and (9) hardware and software management and website administration.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
